i can see a lot in this one. i can see facial expressions, a storm, a cave, rolls of fat on someones belly, etc. it has a fractal art sort of quality to it, to me. probably because of the symmetry.
im quite amazed that there is only 4 comments, well 5 now.i think it looks amazingly difficult to draw and i believe that its tryin to challenge to see something in it
Those two tear-shaped white shapes are similar to the transparent tear shape in the A LUST FOR DEVELOPMENT image. To me it looks like a really ominous looking sky with something about to emerge out of it. It could be a detail from a larger image.
This is not an 'official' Radiohead blog, but I guess you could say it's endorsed by the band now as they've linked it on Dead Air Space. Quite an honour. ;-)
haha, personally, I was waaay off base on meaning of this title, lol! I kept trying to rhymn "Hattifattener" in some sort of Essex-style cockney slang. Makes total sense that it's some sort of Finnish ghosty...
"us in luminous contours map sheets...mining around underneath" -possible lyric from Thom
maybe it's a view from above of "us" under "luminous contours map sheets, mining around underneath"
might explain what looks to be thighs spread under a sheet of contour lines? Maybe the hattifattener spirits are attracted to the spirtual nature of the human coitus beneath the sheets and then transend our world analgously out through the image of the contour map lines?
burning sperm?
ReplyDeleteburning sperm would fit in nicely with the songs.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me think of Dante's Inferno. It's vertiginous.
ReplyDeletelarge sperm or a vagina? both.

ReplyDeleteThe cover of Joy Division's first album 'Unknown Pleasures' reminds me of this a bit...

I'm high on vicodan- can you tell? ouch!
damn, am I really the only person here to immediately associate the title with the Moomin World?
ReplyDeleteNo.. I thought of Tove Jansson's Moomin books right off.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really think those white lines and ripples look like those hattifattener electrofied and shivering in a storm.
