The symmetry here is quite ominous - it suggests to me a sort of deliberate intention behind the depicted events, rather than it being a chaotic accident. Perhaps it speaks of that sense that when a disaster falls upon human development, it's the earth acting out in retaliation.
This is a mirror image of the Copper Plate Levit Crotch from Stanleys new works, with the addition of the flames. Stanley & Thom have mixed thermal scans into some of there works- Wasted energy of suburbia.
Stanley is from essex so I guess that the inspiration for the title.
It reminds of the Mdidnight Oil track, Beds are burning (I think thats what it was called) which is one of the earlier environmental songs that I can recall.
I see several things going on in this one. One of them is the idea of an infrastructure, because of the three levels, one on top of the other.
Another thing I see is a phallic figure infiltrating the core, as if representing 'man' raping mother nature. those red outlines on the top third image are interesting. I'm not sure what they represent but I see two human profiles (from the waist to the thighs) facing each other but separated by another figure... the one with the phallic thing coming out of it. I have no idea if I'm way off but the more I look at it the more I like it.
On the bottom third I see the black shapes as burnt houses, perhaps also representing the fragile nature of the 'houses of cards' built by suburban devolopers.

I really want his to be the artwork for either the album or at least a single. I really love this one. It's incredibly beautiful.
