yeah... it's nice to see the whole process. i mean it'll be nice to compare the finished work with these ones after we get the upcoming album (?). It seems to me that stanley spends a lot of time with the band while they are making new songs and that somehow gives stanley ideas, right?
it would be nice to hear then (after the album? is released) what stanley and thom left out and why... i mean i consider stanley as a band member so it would be nice to see how much the rest of the band try to influence on stanleys works... and does these works influence on the music (it must at some level)
someone mentioned that it looks like three separate genres of work. #1. the down is the new up houses #2. the maps #3 the lined mountains with the undersea theme.
Wonder if stan doesn't make new art for the different vibes the songes are taking on? Seems likes its all evolving
Yes, Stanley listens to the new songs while he creates. I am sure that his art also influences Radiohead's music... the directions it takes. Radiohead have always had different themes and styles going on at the same time for each album. They get used in different places: their website, the album cover, the singles covers, etc. It won't be just one idea since the songs are so varied and each one influences Stanley's artwork differently. I hope to read a lot of discussion about this in interviews as well. I think Stanley commented on the new album's artwork in a recent interview. If I can locate it I will post a link to it.
i think i'd be satisfied if this were the official artwork for the new album. it combines all the themes/images of prior hodiau postings, and is about the same dimensions as an album cover.
maybe a bit more color.... but this would be cool.
Here's a link to a blog where I'm collecting interviews with Stanley Donwood. There are a few where he discusses the artwork for the next Radiohead album. http://stanleydonwood.blogspot.com/
i wonder which of these will make it onto the final booklet. i think these are the most elaborate illustrations stanley has ever done, even surpassing the ones on okc or kid a. and i´m quite sure they will accompany the music in a same manner as the kid a ones did with the songs back then. perhaps are they planning many ways in which to release these pieces?
these works are getting elaborate and a big picture is emerging, i'm just not sure what it looks like. either way it's amazing.
ReplyDeletegee does stanley eat or sleep? or is he constantly burning the midnight oil? hehe

This is amazing
ReplyDeleteIndeed nice to see how it developes. Can I order the new LP on vinyl yet? I like vinyl sleeves, good old big format! ;-)
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work guys!
You can't order anything yet on any kind of formats. Nobody knows.
ReplyDeleteI know. ;-(

My favorite by far
ReplyDeleteSeems a bit nightmarish as usual. Houses turning into empirical structures- The ordinary turning into the oppressive- brilliant.
